India, officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area; the most populous country and the world’s most populous democracy. Bounded by the Indian ocean on the south, the Arabian sea on the southwest, and the Bay of Bengal on the southeast, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west, China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north; and Bangladesh and Myanmar to the east. During the Vedic period (c. 1700 BCE – c. 500 BCE), the foundations of Hindu philosophy, mythology, theology and literature were laid, and many beliefs and practices which still exist today, such as dhárma, kárma, yóga, and mokṣa, were established.

A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon, Miss Fanny Bright

The story I must tell
I went out on the snow,
And on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by
In a one-horse open sleigh,
